Online Townhall Meeting

During the Great Depression President Roosevelt used live radio to chat with Americans about recovering from the Great Depression. Now, President Obama is going to use the internet to chat with Americans of the problems that we are facing and what he plans to do to fix it.

I think this is a great idea. Maybe someone will have some really good idea that will be presented to President Obama will find intrigueing; intrigueinly enough to consider as an option for solving the problems we are facing now and years from now. Just because he has brilliant people who went to a bunch of Ivy League schools does not mean they have the answer to everything. Obviously they have proven that themselves.

Whether or not President Obama finds the right answer from listening to the people, I think this is a great idea. President Obama is standing by his word. During the election he said he wanted to hear everyones voice and listen to what they have to say. This is exactly what he is doing, listening to the people.

Maybe I am biased, but did President Bush ever listen to the people?

No….I don’t think so.

Lennart Green: Close-up card magic

After watching two videos that were posted on Wiki Space I decided to look into other speakers and watch another video. The speaker in the video I chose is Lennart Green. Lennart Green is a magician and throughout this video demonstrates a lot of tricks using a deck of cards. However, as he demonstrates his tricks he seems as though he might be drunk or very clumsy which was quite hysterical.

At first when I started watching this video I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue watching it or not because I noticed that it was over half hour long and I didn’t know if I was going to enjoy watching some clumsy drunk try and perform card tricks. However, as I continued to watch Mr. Green perform his tricks I became very intrigued. He was very clever and quite funny. As he was commentating throughout his demonstrations he would be dropping cards and apologizing to the crowd in a sincere manner like he wasn’t really trying it. He was definitely putting on a good show.

As it turned out, I ended up watching the entire video. Although the video becomes a little bland towards the end, it was still very intriguing. Click here if you are interesed in watching a few card tricks. I hope you find Lennart Green to be as amusing as I did.

Evan Williams: Twitter and its unexpected uses

I just watched the video on Evan Williams talking about Twitter and some of the unexpected uses. I found it fascinating when he was talking about people twittering to give their neighbors and others information about the wildfire in California. This is a good way to inform people of what is going on and help others avoid danger.

Another piece of information Evan Williams mentioned during his presentation was about the current people who use Twitter just to give an update. I thought the slide about a Republican listening to President Obama’s stimulas package plan was pretty funny.

Although I find twitter to be interesting, I don’t care to use twitter all that much. I was following some people just to see how it works, but I am not one that cares to tell everyone what I am doing throughout the day. I don’t really care if people know what I am doing, and I don’t care to take the time to let them know. However, I understand that people are different and do enjoy updating their status throughout the day, but I would rather not.

Bill Gates

The first video I chose to watch on TED was from Bill Gates called, How I am trying to Change the World. Bill Gates described two different problems that occur throughout the world today and than gave his ideas on how he can fix the problems.

The first problem he wanted to solve was how to stop a deadly disease that is spread by mosquitos. Mosquitos are a huge factor in the spread of malaria. This totally caught me off guard. I didn’t realize how much mosquitoes play a major role in the spread of malaria. I also was surprised that this was one of the main problems he was considering.

The second problem that he wants to solve is how can I make a teacher great. Bill believes everyone deserves to have great teachers because the most successful people in the world have had great teachers so it proves that students with great teachers can be successful. His ideas of having cameras in classroom to help show what a teacher is doing wrong and what a teacher is doing good is a great idea. This will allow teachers to improve in areas that they are weak in. Also, this can get rid of all of the poor teachers who do not improve to help their students.

Blogging…

Before I was in this class I didn’t realize how much people blog. Now, I have noticed that many websites offer some sort of blogging. I have found that blogging is a great way to share each others ideas and opinions which allows for a great learning tool.

I recently read a funny article about Twitter. During halftime of a NBA basketball game, Charlie Villanueva who plays for the Milwaukee bucks decided to update his Twitter status. He wanted to keep the fans updated and he felt that this was a good game way to motivate him because he felt he wasn’t playing that well. Although the Bucks lost, Villanueva was the their leading scorer and leading rebounder. However, when the his coach found out about him writing on his twitter during halftime he wasn’t pleased. If interested, here’s the full article. Charlie Villanueva Tweet

I recently joined another blog posting site called “I’m A Top Prospect.” This is a very interesting blog site because it is based around six college athletes who are entereing the NFL draft this upcoming April. Each athlete blogs about  everything they do from meeting with various coaches, questions they ask, workouts they do etc. I am excited about this site because I am a huge sports fan and I have been following the draft prospects for some time now. I hoping to have some conversations with some of these athletes and ask a lot of questions. If interested in this site, just sign up. I’m A Top Prospect

Amusing Picture I found for a Class Assignment…

Top ten things I would like to do before I die…

10. Travel to Australia. Great weather, English speaking, beautiful area. Need I say more?

09. Have pet German Shepherd. German Shepherds are great dogs and although I grew up with one in the house, I’ll want to get one for myself once I settle down.

08. Own a house. I don’t want to pay a mortgage all my life. I want to be able to go home to something that is mine and only mine.

07. See all my friends and family be very successful and happy. Why wouldn’t I?

06. Win millions and millions of dollars. They say money doesn’t by happiness. I disagree. You think billionaires are complaining about being in a recession or about the high gas prices? Doubt it.

05. Have Los Angeles Lakers courtside season tickets. Not only would I get to watch the Lakers anytime I want, but I would do so well sitting along side famous people that attend the games night in and night out.

04. Coach Division I men’s basketball at a  well known university. I know that coaching isn’t always a secure job, but when your ranked number one every year who has to worry?

03. Hang out with Kobe Bryant. He’s the greatest basketball player of my generation. I could learn a lot from him in order to keep that job as a Division I basketball coach.

02. Own the Los Angeles Lakers. What can I say, I like the Lakers.

01. Raise a family. As big of a sports fan that I am, and how much I would love to win a million dollars, raising a family is the number one thing I want to do before I die. After all, who else would I spend all that money on?
